These are AFR heads from the 90s, came in for a refresh. I found previous rebuilder didn’t use a hardened spring seat, so the soft shims got damaged. Here we are cutting spring pockets larger to accept a common 1.5” spring locator.

Here is the end result of the dynamic balancing of a Buick grand national rotating assembly. Molnar power adder rods weight matched, diamond pistons, and a Weber forged crank, internal balance using the factory 36.6% reciprocating factor. It has been balanced to the “Race” industry standard of .25 oz-in…. Which means on this piece, it would be 2 grams or less of imbalance at resonant speed. #bu...

make sure to boar out the spring housing for the slide .. i have seen those springs get caught up after machining..
You also have to make sure you don’t use the Subaru gasket.
nice vid.
Always good to be well balanced!
All 6l80e rebuilds i do i send the bellhousing to get machined. Saves alot from buying another 👍🏼. Great video
I just acquired one of these machines, hard to find tooling.
What were your bearing clearances?
I should have just bought the used Bridgeport the mill I picked is just a hair short of being able to do a full pass. And tricks I can learn?
Is it a 42” table?
No it’s only 27
The Subaru also has an open deck block surface. The cylinders sink, I've seen as much as .004" on a "good" block
Is this Head Bites channel?
RIP my mentor…. Headbytes is why I wear lifting gloves and smoke cigarettes when porting heads.
What angle do u set heads at thanks in advance
What size fluid pump should I buy if I'm just gunna replace my entire bellhousing? There are 3 options: 17.9675 mm 17.9935 mm 18mm
Very nice is that a single tip?
Yes
How much you charge to machine the bell housing and pump and do you have a website?
Valve cuva, lol
Great idea Scott, nice job. I never see this video.👍
Thank you
What studs did you use length 1.9 or 2,0
I don’t temember
Remember
I can’t wait till my mill come in
How do replace the return spring for the head...and get it in the cap?
just buy a new one
Why? Machining these two surfaces cost NOTHING to us that own real toys!
Good catch . Good eye !
Thanks for that tip, you never know when something like this will come back and bite you on your butt👍🏻😂
NEver heard of this happening...over the yrs they corrode themselves shut..very well. Good tech tip though
Did you mention what direction to spin it?
Hi, I just picked up one of these and need to put oil in it. If you could tell me what oil you use in yours, how much, and how to drain the old oil Id really appreciate it. Going on a week now waiting for a manual.
I believe it is 80w-90 gear oil, like you would use in a rear end. I should prob check mine, these machines always have a small leak.
@@scotts439 If you do let me know what the level should be. The other thing is, I cant find a drain plug for it. Kind of odd
@@allurared9029 I can look in my manual for the machine
@@scotts439 If you did that would be great
One of the best things you can do for these heads. Great work !
I've done at least 70 or more Cleveland's and never had a problem. Did that with a hundred or more 2v heads on 351M's and 400's too. Never had a problem.

Just picked one of these up yesterday and wasnt expecting a lot, but WOW these are great. Especially for old iron heads. Like you said all the accuracy is in the tooling, which is why they are still doing a good job to this day.
:Lunati supplier vendor has left the chat:
Good video friend 👍💚🤝🔁💞.
I use a garden hose on one of the interior heater hoses 😉 is about 15 psi in UK but finds a lot of leaks ☺️
Lunati has stayed behind in the racing industry as companies like BTR, Johnson, and Jesel have taken over 99% of top end/valvetrain departments
Annoying to keep hearing you sniffle, you on coke at work or something? Relax 😂
🥱
My buddy runs these to 8k rpm no problems I just ordered a set 2 hours ago 🙏
He runs hydraulic rollers up to 8k rpm? That’s pretty hard to do because these are so heavy. You sure he doesn’t have a solid roller?
They are in a 5.7 ls1 engine
Mot validating this guy, but boost doctor pushes over 2300 wheel at 9k+ in the Malibu with hydra's
i can't tell you how many times i've seen guys putting their 302s in their vehicle without priming it
Where did you get the adapter to use newen, cutters ? I have an Idl love it.
Came with the machine
What brand paint did you use on the block? Is that flat or satin black?
Low gloss black
Whats there to choose from for linkbar lifters for a 302w? These apparently suck and the Comp ones suck even worse
Johnson’s are supposed to be the best.
Great job! Love your rollover block support.
After the conversion machining, would a rocker stud girdle work?
not sure i have ever seen a girdle for a cleveland. If one exists, yes it would work.
Moroso made one
Ford Motor Sport had the studs tied into the valve covers. It was an cool set up.
Sounds good dude
I can’t attach a picture but it is OER brand, original equipment reproduction, Mopar turquoise, part number K89162
What was the color code you used on the engine, Im building a 361 and wanting to go with the factory color but no one has the exact color.
customer just brought me the turquoise spray cans.... ill see if i can find one and send you the info off of it
@@scotts439 I'm trying to paint my 361 wedge in that turquoise color and I wish I had some way to mix the color in Rust-Oleum
Is that 300 thou with the rail or after the rail .
.300" total
Hey that's a great idea! I just happen to have an extra Cradle for my PH2000. How much did you mill off the uprights?
I see now , you just trued them up. That's cool! So it would be real easy to switch it back if you only had one cradle.
Just enough to get them even and flat to each other.
Do you have a link to buy the neway adapter?
they dont manufacture any IDL tooling anymore. You need to find a used one, try Dennis at Beam Equipment.
How much do you remove or what is the finished hight?
I remove .300”. That is the industry accepted spec over the years. Must be good info because the rocker geometry worked out well, aluminum rocker didn’t bottom out on the stud hex, etc.
Just buy a new one...time saved.😎👊🏻
